1. About the Publication

Retail Insider is a B2B news and analysis publication covering South African retail, e-commerce, FMCG, logistics and consumer technology. Content is published for general information. It is not investment, legal, tax, accounting or professional advice, and it does not take account of your circumstances. Decisions you make on the basis of what you read here are yours.

2. Intellectual Property

All content on this site, including articles, analysis, charts, graphics, logos and the Retail Insider name, is protected by the Copyright Act 98 of 1978 and is owned by Retail Insider or its contributors and licensors.

2.1 What you may do

  • Read, print and store articles for your own or your organisation’s internal use.
  • Quote a reasonable extract, normally no more than 150 words, with clear attribution to Retail Insider and a working link to the original article.
  • Share links to our articles freely.

2.2 What you may not do

  • Republish an article in full, on any platform, without written permission.
  • Scrape, harvest, mine or systematically copy the site, including for the purpose of training machine learning models, without written permission.
  • Remove or alter bylines, attributions, sponsored labels or copyright notices.
  • Present our content, charts or data as your own work.
  • Resell or redistribute our newsletter content commercially.

Syndication and reprint requests go to ed****@**************co.za.

3. Submissions and Contributor Licence

By submitting an article, comment, image, chart, dataset or other material to Retail Insider, you confirm that:

  • The work is your own original work, or you hold all rights necessary to submit it.
  • It does not infringe any third party’s copyright, trade mark, confidentiality or privacy rights.
  • It is not defamatory, misleading or unlawful.
  • You have disclosed every commercial interest relevant to the subject matter, as required by the Editorial and Submission Guidelines.

You retain copyright in your submission. You grant Retail Insider a perpetual, worldwide, royalty free, non-exclusive licence to publish, edit, format, reproduce, syndicate, archive and promote the submission in any medium, together with your name, biography and photograph.

We are not obliged to publish any submission, and we may edit, decline, withdraw or remove one at our discretion. You indemnify Retail Insider against any claim arising from material you submitted.

4. Comments and User Conduct

Comments are moderated. We remove, without notice, anything that is defamatory, abusive, discriminatory, unlawful, off topic, commercial spam or posted under a false identity to create the impression of independent support. Repeat offenders are blocked.

You may not attempt to gain unauthorised access to the site, interfere with its operation, or use automated systems to place load on it beyond normal reading.

5. Sponsored Content and Advertising

Commercial content is labelled as sponsored or partner content. Views expressed in it are those of the sponsor and not of Retail Insider. Publication of an advertisement or sponsored article is not an endorsement of the advertiser, its products or its claims. Our full commercial policy sits in the Editorial and Submission Guidelines.

6. Third Party Links

We link to external sources, company sites and documents. Those links are provided for reference. We do not control third party sites, do not endorse their content by linking to it, and accept no responsibility for their availability, accuracy or practices.

7. Accuracy and Corrections

We take reasonable care to verify what we publish, but we do not warrant that content is complete, current or free of error. Market data changes and third party sources are sometimes revised. To request a correction, email ed****@**************co.za with the article URL and the specific claim in dispute.

8. Availability and Disclaimer

The site is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. We do not guarantee uninterrupted access and may suspend, withdraw or change any part of the site without notice.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, including the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 where it applies, Retail Insider is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, or for any loss of profit, revenue, data, goodwill or business opportunity, arising from your use of or reliance on the site or its content.

9. Privacy

Our handling of personal information is set out in the Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms.

10. Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms. The date at the top of the page shows when they last changed. Continued use of the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.
